We’re all aware by now of the delightfully ironic story coming out of (Summertime) Antarctica, about the climate research ship that is stuck solid in thick ice. Chinese, Russian and Australian icebreakers have turned back for fear of also getting caught in the grip of the ice sheets. Apparently these climate researchers are there to update data that was obtained 100 years ago by another climate research team. That word “update” has my radar on high alert. Does update mean ‘change’ or ‘alter’ the data to fit more in line with their global warming agenda? What exactly needs updating?
At any rate, back to this photograph (see below), there are several remarkable things that jump out at me when I look at it. It’s a picture of a science expeditions chief scientist, Alexander Stevens, taken in McMurdo Bay, Antarctica, in 1914. What can be seen in this photo that is shocking? 1) There is open water. In a bay. At the South Pole. 2) There is bare land. Meaning no ice coverage. At the South Pole. 3) The man in the photograph is not dressed for winter sub-zero temperatures. No parka. No hat. No scarf. Light jacket and shirt. At the South Pole.
So I wonder, when this new scientific expedition updates the data, are they going to photoshop this picture and add the appropriate ice and clothing? — DQ

With much of the world’s attention focused on a modern research ship trapped in the Antarctic ice, photo negatives of early Antartic explorers have emerged from nearly a century ago.
The Antarctic Heritage Trust, based in New Zealand, found the negatives at an expedition base near the continent’s Cape Evans, in the darkroom of the photographer Herbert Ponting. Even though the film was damaged, the pictures were salvageable and are now available on its website.
The darkroom is part of Scott’s Hut, built by Antarctic explorer Robert Falcon Scott. But the photos themselves depict the Ross Sea Party, an offshoot of Ernest Shackleton’s journey across the continent. Though Shackleton isn’t seen in the photos, his chief scientist, Alexander Stevens, is seen on the deck of the ship SY Aurora. The photographer has not been identified. Link to article here…..

Hi. Is there any season date information for this photo? Just because McMurdo Summer temperatures are not that cold for Antarctica standards, around 0ºC.
Did it ever occur to you that the photo was taken at the northern shore of Antarctica,possibly near the Magellan Strait? As for the man,his hands are in his pockets,indicating it is quite cold,just not what you’d expect from the exact location of the South Pole,which would be hundreds of miles south.
If you read the entire article, you’d see that the picture was taken at McMurdo Sound which is at the southern tip of Ross Island.
The clear point of this is, that in spite of the global warming alarmists constant rhetoric about the earth going through the hottest periods on record, there is plenty of evidence to show that areas of this planet have been ice-free, glacier-free, snow-free, often in the past few hundred years. An inconvenient fact that the faithful members of the Church of Global Warming love to ignore.
And they especially don’t like when there is photographic or archival evidence to back that up.
